While being in Prague, you can use Czech Koruna (CZK), which is also known as Czech Crown, for any of your payments. Euros are accepted at some establishments but with low exchange rates. So, it is much better if you use korunas rather than euros.
The Czech Koruna notes come in denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000, and 5000 korunas, and coins are available in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 korunas.
When it comes to currency exchanging in Prague, thing happens the same way it is in most European cities: The best deals come form the exchanging with ATM machines.
The task is pretty simple – use your ATM or credit cards to withdraw local currency from ATMs. Don’t worry about the international transaction fees your home bank charges because after all, what you get are still better than what you can receive from exchanging with money changers.
That is the best and most convenient option. But it doesn’t mean that change offices are not helpful. If bringing cash along is your choice, change offices can help. Many can help very well as their rates are quite close to inter-bank exchange rates.
A few forex shops even offer VIP rates for those who exchange the amount that is equal to or higher than 1000 Euros. There is another way to get that special offer: Presenting VIP vouchers printed out from change offices’ websites (see the list below) to the staff.
Note that the unbelievably good rates offered by street changers (who intentionally approach you) often include a scam in themselves. Just don’t do the exchange with them.
Enjoy your Prague trip and service of reliable change offices recommended below.
